Meet Michaela Baddeley
Michaela is an Associate Consultant at Realm and specialises in the recruitment of family and childcare lawyers. She works with law firms across Merseyside, Lancashire and West Cheshire.
Michaela joined Realm in 2021 after completing her LLB and LPC/LLM. She previously worked as a fee earner in a law firm.
In December 2022, Michaela won the award for the Employee’s Employee at our prestigious end-of-year awards ceremony, The Realmies.

What’s important to you when working with a lawyer?
It’s important to me first and foremost when working with a lawyer that we build a rapport with one another and get to know each other. Luckily for me, working with family lawyers, it’s pretty easy because they are such chatty and lovely people. By building that foundation in the first instance, it means that anytime I offer them advice or go to them with opportunities, they can trust that what I’m offering is right for them.
How do you think the law firms you work with would describe you in three words?
If a law firm I work with was asked to describe me in 3 words, I think they would choose friendly, transparent and reliable.
What’s been your proudest moment at Realm so far?
I actually have a few. The first is when I was promoted; I felt like all of the hard work I put in was recognised and it was just such a big achievement. The second was when I won the award for Employee’s Employee at our annual awards. And the third was filling a senior level hire with one of our clients, which was a particularly challenging role, but we got there in the end.
What advice would you give to a family lawyer looking to build a successful career?
The advice I would give to a family lawyer looking to build a successful career is firstly to figure out exactly what it is that you do want from your career in the long term. The second piece of advice I would give is to accept any opportunity that comes your way and really put yourself out there! And the third would be to start building your personal brand as early as possible, by posting on social media such as LinkedIn, going to events and by joining the relevant networking groups in your practice area.
