Tell us about a great result you got for a lawyer?
One great result I got for a lawyer was when I got someone a 25% pay increase. I think they definitely noticed that month-to-month and I know it was something that they appreciated me getting them.
What advice would you give any law firms looking to recruit right now?
The advice I’d give to a law firm looking to recruit right now would be to make sure that you offer plenty of flexibility, as ultimately that’s what everyone’s looking for at the moment. But alongside that, most importantly, we all go to work to get paid, so they need to pay as competitively as possible.
What’s a moment in your career you are proud of?
A moment in my career that I’m proud of was right at the start actually, it was when I got a job here at Realm. This was my first office job as I struggled to find one that I actually liked, so I felt like it was a good fit and it’s obviously worked out because I’ve stayed here for so long.
What advice would you give a lawyer looking to build a successful career in personal injury?
The advice I’d give to a lawyer looking to start a career in personal injury would be to network as much as you can. I’ve noticed that the personal injury sector is definitely a very small world, so making connections with people at a range of firms can go a long way. But as well as that, it’s to carve out what area of personal injury you want to specialise in and commit to that early on.
How do you help lawyers develop their career even when they don’t want to move firms?
I’d help a lawyer develop their career, even if they didn’t want to move firms, because ultimately, it’s not just what’s here and now that we’re focusing on. The ways I do this include providing things such as salary data that we collect at Realm each year, giving market insights as to what else is out there with other firms so that they can compare their current role against that, but then also signposting them to relevant resources and so on that might help them take that next step in the career.
